De-risking Generative AI
From exploration to operations
Want to move beyond AI experiments?
Guiding organisations on Generative AI - from pilot stages to full operations
GenAI is changing how we work
Explore, adopt, and operationalise generative AI with insights from a leader in transformation services.
Hi, I’m Andrea Cartwright. With three decades of experience in large-scale digital transformation, product development, and an academic background in AI ethics, I bring experience and knowledge to navigate organisations through the complexities of generative AI transformations - bridging the critical gap between promising AI experiments and real-world business outcomes.
My mission is to guide organisations through the adoption of AI technologies, with a specialist focus on “de-risking” generative AI from pilot stages to full operations. As a responsible AI practitioner, I believe generative AI can only drive innovation, efficiency, and productivity within a trusted AI ecosystem - one that ensures reliability, ethical use, security, and fairness.
What makes generative AI unique?
Previous technological revolutions have mainly focused on automating existing tasks, improving speed and efficiency. Although AI includes a broad range of technologies, it is often narrowly associated with generative AI - my focus area. Unlike traditional tech automation, generative AI (e.g., ChatGPT, Gemini, DeepSeek, etc.) generates entirely new content, such as text, images, and code.
This power to create new content presents both opportunities and unique challenges, including:
The Illusion of Functionality. GenAI can produce convincing but inaccurate or misleading outputs.
High-Stakes Consequences. Risks for organisations include ethical, regulatory violations, and reputational damage.
For example, while a poorly designed web booking system might frustrate users, a faulty Generative AI system can generate biased content, leak sensitive data, or even actively mislead.
A major challenge facing organisations exploring generative AI is the difficulty of scaling proof-of-concept projects into real-world operations.
Generative AI initiatives often fail to deliver on their promised return-on-investment (ROI) , with failure rates estimated between 30% (Gartner) and 90% (Forbes). These failures stem from a variety of issues, including vendor hype, selecting the wrong use case, poor data quality, governance challenges, lack of stakeholder alignment, and regulatory constraints.
Yet, the true value of Generative AI lies not in experimentation,
but in successful integration into your core operations.
Successful AI adoption requires a fundamental shift across businesses, governments, and education -
driven by building trust through removing risk.

Senior Advisor
Andrea has spent over 30 years leading large-scale transformation and product development in both complex legacy organisations and fast-moving startups. While industries may differ, she’s found that when it comes to AI, the challenges are surprisingly similar - navigating risk, regulation, and responsible implementation whilst minimising data challenges and ensuring business value.
With a senior career at the intersection of technology and business, and an academic background in AI ethics (you can read about her Masters dissertation on large language models here), Andrea is known for her ability to translate complex tech concepts into practical business strategies.
An engaging speaker and skilled communicator, Andrea is well-known for her ability to influence at all levels of an organisation, helping to get challenging initiatives across the line. Whether helping businesses de-risk AI projects or guiding them through ethical and regulatory complexities, she brings a pragmatic, results-driven approach to every engagement.
A pioneer in IT, Andrea began her career as a coder. As the sole woman in her computer science undergrad degree, she established a mentoring program for future female computing students. She later replicated this success, creating a similar mentoring and training program for female employees seeking careers in IT project management. She also co-hosted "TTalk," Australia's first digital tech radio show, which explored all aspects of the internet, for a weekly audience.
Andrea provides strategic guidance to organisations, helping them navigate the risks associated with generative AI initiatives. She focuses on identifying and mitigating potential financial, regulatory, reputational, and customer-related risks, while ensuring ethical AI is integrated into their operations.
My Approach
Are you looking to move your generative AI proof-of-concept into real-world operations but encountering obstacles? Or are you just beginning to explore how generative AI could benefit your business? I offer tailored, non-technical, cross-disciplinary, vendor-neutral, and jargon-free engagements designed to help you navigate these challenges.
By focusing on the positive impact of AI for people, I help organisations build trust, align with regulations, and create better experiences for both customers and employees. I work with businesses to assess the operational, regulatory, and ethical dimensions of AI, ensuring alignment with their strategic objectives, and embedding responsible AI practices.
“I have had the pleasure of working with Andrea both in Europe and in Asia and she is always great fun to work with. Taking technical products and commercializing them effectively is a rare skill so finding someone who is so passionate and successful is always impressive.”
— Al, Head of Commercial, Brighton, UK
“Andrea was an absolute pleasure to work with over a variety of projects; ultimately she kept the team honest and on brief whilst allowing a great degree of discussion around innovation and value creation, and helped to cherry pick the best input and then ensure implementation was comprehensive, specific and timely.”
—Chris, Senior Marketing Leader, Sydney, Australia
Andrea's razor sharp intellect and ability to turn conceptual ideas into reality make her an asset to any large business. Andrea will approach complex situations (issues or opportunities), quickly work out strategies and actions required, then lead multi disciplinary teams to deliver successful business outcomes.
— Jane, Head of Product, Melbourne, Australia
